Caleb Z Rivera, MD

Dr. Rivera is a fellowship-trained ophthalmologist specializing in the medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma, cataracts, and complex anterior segment diseases. This includes routine and complex cataract surgery, traditional glaucoma surgery (trabeculectomy, tube shunt), minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGS), and glaucoma laser procedures.

Dr. Rivera was born and raised in Cody, Wyoming, and completed his undergraduate education at the University of Wyoming. He was accepted into the WWAMI program and earned his medical degree at the University of Washington School of Medicine. He completed both his residency and specialized glaucoma fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where he also gained extensive experience in UAB’s 24/7 eye emergency department, managing emergent and complex eye conditions from all over the southeast.

Dr. Rivera hopes to use his skills to help eradicate preventable blindness worldwide and has participated in ophthalmology outreaches in Nicaragua and Ghana, Africa.

Aside from ophthalmology, Dr. Rivera enjoys an active lifestyle including running, weightlifting, bike rides, playing, and watching sports. A coffee enthusiast and passionate Buffalo Bills fan, he also cherishes quality time with his wife and two boys. He and his family are excited to be returning to the Mountain West and look forward to serving the Treasure Valley.
